Full on Recovery Mode - Tidy Weekender Review

I have to say, planning to write a review while I was actually at Tidy Weekender was perhaps a tad too ambitious of me, seeing as I wouldn’t have been capable of typing for most of the weekend haha! However, it was an awesome weekend, with plenty of good music to listen to, and lots of fun in the sunshine to be had – it was the perfect start to the summer festival weekend, and highly entertaining to boot!

Notable sets of the weekend include Jon BW who played an absolutely amazing opening set to the weekend in Room 2 – it was great to see the second room so packed for the first set of the weekend, and everyone was absolutely loving it! (Even if the excessive amount of clowns did make it hard work at times haha!). This is a fantastic tune from Jon that was released on his own record label at the end of last year - this is Crossfire, and it's bloody ace!!

The Scratch Perverts gave us 2 hours of mash-up madness covering lots of different genres on Saturday afternoon in the Queen Vic – their mixing as always was flawless, and they had the place literally rocking! They played too many great tunes to mention, including the Breakage remix of fighting fire which I absolutely love, and they opened with this awesome little number – Guilt by Nero. I absolutely love the vocal in this, it’s so uplifting!! I have actually lost count of how many times I’ve seen the Scratch Perverts now, and the last 3 times I’ve not been as impressed I was expecting, however they fully redeemed themselves this weekend!

Following on from the Perverts was Leeds lad done good, Sam Townend who went back to the old school with some classic speed garage to finish off the entertainment in the Vic – again, he had the place rocking, and he played some awesome tunes that I haven’t heard in years! The crowd went mental when he dropped this absolutely classic speed garage tune!

Robbie Muir brought down the house on Sunday morning, as he played the opening set for the after party in the main room. The room was packed, especially considering that he was playing at 6am in the morning, and it was great to see a DJ who was absolutely loving being up there – he was jumping around more than some people in the crowd!

There was also some dubious mixing from some DJ’s who either came out of retirement specifically for this weekend, or who have obviously not been practicing anywhere near enough (complacency and cockiness is not attractive in DJ's). Kernzy and Klemenza should obviously have practiced mixing on vinyl more recently than 5 years ago, as they were booed for some seriously bad mixing during their set, and quite a lot of the female DJ’s in the main room on the Saturday night left a lot to be desired including Rachel Auburn - although Lucy Fur who played the last set of the night was great.

In other news, Camo and Krooked have put links to a free download for some tunes they have been working on over the past couple of years under another alias, Chrome. This is the “Paranoia” EP, and they have provided this link as they are too busy at the moment working on an album for Hospital Records – which is also fantastic news. Click here to download these tunes, they are fantastic tracks.

Finally, for those junglists amongst you, Racknruin has put up a link to download his hour long jungle mix that was played on Crissy Criss’s 1Xtra Drum n Bass show last week. This is definitely worth checking out if you didn’t get chance to listen to the Crissy Criss show I linked you to last week – I love the classic jungle that this starts with!

I hope you enjoyed today’s update, I’ve got loads of tunes lined up for the rest of the week so keep listening for some right royal treats!
