Monday Morning Blues!

I’ve got a definite case of the Monday morning blues today, after what was a pretty good weekend all round, and am definitely hoping for a quick recovery as the next weekend promises to be action packed as well! However considering I’ve got a trip to York in store this afternoon to watch the legend that is Beardyman, I’m not sure how likely that is!! (Watch this space tomorrow for a review, and hopefully video footage).

On Friday, I had a night out at Toolbox @ Mission nightclub in Leeds to celebrate a good friends birthday, and to watch her boyfriend who was DJ’ing. For me, it is quite rare to actually get me in a club playing Hard House these days, but I’m glad I went both to celebrate my friends birthday, and also to watch Jon BW and Kieran Venkman who for me, played the set of the night. Hard House is not my first love these days, although it will always have a soft spot in my heart because of the history I have with the genre, and the fun I had at these events in the past. I also met a lot of my good friends through the Hard House scene ‘back in the day’, and it acted as a gateway for me into other styles of electronic music that I perhaps wouldn’t have started listening to otherwise.

In my opinion, Jon BW is one of the best producers of this kind of music at the moment, and while I don’t listen to many other DJ’s, I do still really enjoying listening to his tunes, and hearing his sets. He has also been working on a few other styles of music both as an engineer for other artists, and also on his own projects, and I can guarantee that he will definitely be one to watch in the future. If you would like to give him a listen, check out this recent mix that he has kindly shared with us all, which is based on the set he did at Insomniacz on New Years Day. Click here to download.

I heard this morning that the Queens of the Stone Age are touring Europe this year, which is awesome news! I saw them a few years ago at the Leeds Festival, and they were absolutely awesome so I can't wait to catch them again, and will definitely be getting tickets!

Last but by no means least, I absolutely cannot wait until this evening, for the legend that is Beardyman live at Fibbers in York. I haven't been to this venue before, and have only seen Beardyman in a club type situation, where his performance has been an hour long set of dance music, so it will be good to see what his blend of comedy and music will be like. Watch this space for a report of how awesome it was tomorrow!! :)
