Techno - Music to March to!

This weekend saw one of the musical highlights of the year so far (of which there have been quite a few already, I might add) as I attended the Future-Past night hosted by Detatched, Leeds' premiere Techno event. Detatched is a fantastic night anyway, but the Future-Past nights which are hosted every 3 months or so, are just awesome as they bring back the 90's underground techno vibe! The event on Saturday at Beaverworks nightclub was no exception, and included massive names on their line up, who all delivered some storming techno beats! I absolutely love techno, and don't get chance to enjoy it as often as I should do but Saturday night managed to remind me of exactly why I fell in love with it in the first place!

The line up was immense, and included Hardfloor (Live) and Outlander (Live), both of whom delivered a great performance. However the highlight for me was the one and only CJ Bolland. I try to take in events that cover a wide ranging variety of genres, and I have to say that it isn't often I see an atmosphere in a club like the one that I saw on Saturday night! Everyone was dancing all night, the club was a proper little sweatbox, with people cheering when they recognised classic tunes that took them back to events in the 90's start to come in! Bolland's set was one of the most enjoyable I've seen in a while.

This is a live video of him dropping one of the best known tracks of his, The Prophet, and below that is a link to a better quality version so that you can hear it without the crowd cheering if you want to check it out properly.

Also, befriend the Future-Past Leeds profile on facebook for info on upcoming events by clicking here, and if you like your techno loud and pounding, I would strongly recommend checking out Detatched as well - click here for more info!!

One upcoming DJ that will be playing at Detatched in the not too distant future is Xhin - click here to listen to a fantastic live mix from this guy when he played at Civic Underground. This is really great pounding techno music, so crank up the volume and enjoy! Click here to listen!

Apart from the techno overload on Saturday night, this weekend has been quite varied in the music that I've enjoyed, here's a selection of the best for you.

On Saturday evening, I had a blast from the past whilst I was at a friends house, and was reminded of some of the fantastic remixes Armand van Helden has done of certain tracks from the 90's. These two tracks manage to successfully remind me of being a teenager - as I loved the originals both of these - whilst also satisfying my current desire to listen to music that makes me want to dance! These are all great house tracks, and they all manage to put a massive smile on my face, with their winning vocals, fab beats and epic basslines - enjoy!

Next up, I have one of my favourite tracks from Venetian Snares - this is Szamár Madár (the full album version) and it is absolutely gorgeous! Such an epic, atmospheric track!

The last treat I have for you today is a new mix from Marc Wilkie, house aficionado supreme! This is a really enjoyable mix, and is definitely one I'd recommend! Click here to listen and download!
