The Sun Has Got His Hat On!

It has to be said that spring really is one of my favourite times of the year (although I do actually enjoy all of the seasons, particularly the transitional phases between them) – it’s so pretty outside, with flowers of all colours appearing everywhere, buds starting to appear on the tree’s and most importantly of all, the sun comes out to play! It makes me so happy and puts a perpetual smile on my face to feel the warmth from the suns rays on my skin, to absorb the gorgeous brightness of the sunshine outdoors, to enjoy the extra hours of daylight, and of course, everyone seems to be in a fantastic mood as well.

The music that I’m going to share with you today is all music that makes me feel good, for one reason or another. Some of this music is very recent, some of it is a little bit older but the main thing that they all have in common is that they all make me feel really good. There are some really soulful, beautiful tracks that make me feel really nice, and positive in an emotional kind of way, some new Drum and Bass that is really enjoyable and makes me feel really happy, and then some other favourite tracks from the past few years that I simply love. So without further ado, let's get straight to the music!

These first two are tracks are by the talented Sufjan Steven’s. This first one, Pittsfield is from an album called The Avalanche, and it such a moving and beautiful song.

The second track is called Now that I’m older, and this is from the Age of Adz album that was released last year. This follows in a similar vein to the first track, and both strike me as being very reflective, looking back in a positive way at lessons learned in the past, and being ready to embrace the future. I feel that they are quite transitional songs, perhaps looking at moving through the different stages of life, and this strikes me as quite an apt message at the turning of the seasons.

Time to switch it up a bit now, with some new Drum and Bass. DJ Hype posted a new promotional mix online yesterday in conjunction with Fabric and Playaz, as he is playing at Fabric this Friday. (Click here for more information and to buy tickets). I downloaded this mix and managed to listen to it 3 times yesterday, and once this morning so far – it’s great! Loads of tunes on here that I haven’t heard yet, these are some really nice beats, lovely deep Drum and Bass, and I have to say that I think it is a thoroughly enjoyable mix! Click here to download.

Also, if anyone can provide a tracklist for this I will be eternally grateful! ;)

One of the tracks that I was able to identify was a new DJ Fresh tune that is forthcoming on Ramm Records on the 11th of April. This is Gatekeeper, and this is yet another brilliant tune from one of my favourite producers. Enjoy!

This tune reminds me of last spring, and how much fun I was having rediscovering music all over again after a brief hiatus, and apart from anything else it’s Sub Focus, so you know it’s bound to be good. I love the slow tempo at the start, and then the feeling when it kicks in – fantastic!!

This is a gorgeous dubstep tune - don't let the genre put you off though, as this is what I feel dubstep truly is, not the horrendous noise that it became during the second half of last year! It's got a lovely slow tempo, gorgeous haunting beats, lovely vocal. What more could a track want! Trust me, it's definitely worth a listen, and is not what most people new to the genre of dubstep would associate with that type of music, upon hearing a lot of the recent rubbish that has ruined the genre for a lot of the original fans.

The last track of the day is great; this is the kind of track that if you had playing in your headphones while walking around time, it would make you feel as if you were in your very own action film, with a dramatic soundtrack. I love the way this makes me feel, all pumped up and ready for action haha!

I hope you have enjoyed today's selection, please share this blog around if you've enjoyed it, and if you have any suggestions please feel free to comment or contact me.
